Introduction
For more than 20 years, Mary McGoldrick has provided expert home care and hospice consultation and educational services on The Joint Commission standards and infection prevention and control activities. Mary began her home care career more than 30 years ago as a home health aide and since that time, she has served in a myriad of home care clinical, management, and executive-level positions including serving as a hospice volunteer. During this time, Mary was a home care and hospice surveyor for The Joint Commission for 12 years, and as was on the educational faculty for The Joint Commission for 10 years. Additionally, she was an adjunct professor for more than five years at Mercer University's Graduate School of Business and Economics in Atlanta, Georgia.

An author of more than 80 published articles and several other books, chapters and manuals, Mary is also a member of the Editorial Review Boards for the Journal of Infusion Nursing and Home Healthcare Nurse journal. She is the co-author of the first and second editions of Infection Control in Home Care and Hospice book, an official APIC publication. Mary authored the "Infection Prevention and Control" chapter for Infusion Nurses Society textbook, Infusion Nursing: An Evidence-Based Approach.

Mary served on the APIC-HICPAC CDC Committee to develop surveillance definitions for home health and hospice, and on The Joint Commission's Expert Advisory Panel for the Infection Prevention and Control standards for the home care industry. Mary speaks frequently on the topic of infection prevention in home care and hospice and was a recent invited speaker at the CDC's Fifth Decennial International Conference on Healthcare-Associated Infections. Mary also serves as an infection Preventionist for home health agencies and hospices.
